Fiendfire

I've started a new rug called "Fiendfire" named after a scene in the Harry Potter Deadly Hallows book where the Room of Requirement gets destroyed by magical fires that is full of all kinds of shaped flames. That's what the design reminds me of though the art was done years before I read the book. The original art was designed back in 2005 when I still designing tattoo flash. It was just a small sketch and I decided to try to do this as a rug and expanded on it somewhat. The rug will be roughly 3 x 7 on burlap in various sizes of wool strips, some of my spun yarns and unspun fleece.

Progress so far

Wow great contrast with your "smile" piece! Can't wait to see what you do with this one.

Thank you Susan. This is fun piece to work on even as big as it is. Originally I was just going to do two colors black and gray but I didn't have enough black to do the figures in so I decided to add some reds, purples, and other flame colors. I works out.

Thank you, April. I'll try to keep posting my progress on this. This is a sort of warm up for your Abstract challenge. I'm still learning to work with the smaller strips and blending them. Fiendfire isn't quite enough abstract for the challenge but I've got some ideas in my head for something that will be. For some reason I'm on a tribal art kick with my rugs right now and am glad everyone is liking what I'm doing.
